Cube Hotshoe 3-Axis Bubble Level

Once you see it, it makes sense.

It’s a bubble level that fits on the hotshoe of your (D)SLR camera. Brilliant! Great if your tripod doesn’t have a level built in.

Sample video imageYou don’t realize how low-quality most of the video we watch is until you see something much better. The Casio Exilim Pro EX-F1 video camera can capture video at up to 1200 frames per second. (If you don’t understand frames per second, think about the “burst mode” in digital still cams that lets you take up to 16 rapid-fire shots — and that’s if you have a pro camera.) To get fluid slow motion shots without blur, you need more frames per second. This camera captures movement that’s too fast for the human eye to see.

I don’t know the price on this camera (I very likely won’t be buying one), but you just have to check out the sample videos! Click below.  It’s so Matrix!

It’s the Cubicaller.  But if the sound of someone sneaking up to your cubicle can scare you half to death, what will some of these ring chimes do?

iPod without iTunes? Possible with Floola February 23, 2007

Many people dislike the fact that, by Apple’s design, purchasing an iPod  requires you to use iTunes as your media manager.  When one of my friends recently got an iPod, although she had started using iTunes she found herself in a quandary as to how she might get her older MusicMatch music onto the device as well.

Enter Floola (don’t you love software names?).  Though the web site doesn’t make it entirely clear, Floola is free software that lets you manage your iPod music without having to use iTunes.  It installs directly on the iPod and according to the web site runs under Windows, Mac OS, and Linux.  If you want to see a demo that is too small to be useful and is accompanied by annoying music, there’s a YouTube video on the home page.

I’m perfectly happy with iTunes (and am currently without an iPod anyway), so I myself don’t have need for this product, but it might be perfect for someone who is thinking about an iPod but doesn’t want to give up their current music software.  And hey, it’s free.
