DNS, or Domain Name Service, is the protocol that translates the numbers identifying Internet computers (IP addresses) into understandable names like www.LTFtech.com.  Each Internet Service Provider (ISP) has DNS servers that are responsible for routing your Internet traffic to the correct location.  Your home computer or router usually has your ISP DNS server numbers assigned to it, but a service called OpenDNS lets you use their DNS servers for improved (as they claim) service.  The service is free, and all you have to do is copy the OpenDNS numbers from their web page to your router’s or computer’s network configuration — the web site provides instructions.  You can set up an optional account (still free) to receive additional benefits like content filtering and statistics.   OpenDNS sounds like a fantastic option for parents who want to make sure adult content doesn’t enter their homes.  (I’m changing my router settings as soon as I’m done typing this.)
