“Own the Internet” with Agloco December 27, 2006

Agloco is a company that proposes to pay you just for surfing the Internet. Advertisers pay millions to get your attention, right? Agloco says you should be getting a piece of that action. While I don’t understand it well enough to thoroughly explain it, basically the nitty-gritty is that you install a web browser toolbar from Agloco and then you get paid for visiting the Web sites you normally would. Aglogo pays you in the form of shares in the company and/or cash.
Right now, however, Agloco isn’t doing much of anything, as its toolbar software is still in testing. Agloco has opened itself up now for new memberships for the purpose of building the network.
Some have labeled this a pyramid scheme because of the referral structure, but I can’t see how that could apply when the company doesn’t collect (or intend to collect) any money from its members. The personal information collected upon sign-up is minimal, which is reassuring. Agloco is apparently a new form of a previous web venture called AllAdvantage.
<shrugs> Ah, what the heck…
“Turn your MacBook into a video camera” December 8, 2006

I love ideas that are so simple they’re brilliant. The Ecamm Huckleberry is a mirror that mounts in front of the iSight camera built into your MacBook or MacBook Pro notebook computer, allowing you to capture what’s happening in front of you. Since the camera normally faces the user (useful for video chatting), the Huckleberry is a great enhancement. I don’t have a MacBook, so I haven’t tried this device myself. But as long as it mounts securely, I can’t see how you could go wrong.
