How to get private info about the public May 16, 2006

I’d heard of this web site before, but I was recently prompted to revisit Zabasearch.com. This is a web site that culls thousands of public records in order to construct details about anyone you search for. Specifically, if I enter a person’s name, I can usually get a current or past address, perhaps a phone number, and sometimes an approximation of birth date (month and year). Scary, huh? I’m sure the people who run Zabasearch would say they’re doing nothing wrong, since they’re only searching records that are already publicly available. But the privacy implications are obvious. A web site such as this makes it much EASIER to find information that perhaps would not be so readily accessible, public or not.
They say the Internet is bringing people closer together… closer, indeed.
